Why the name 1point86?
As I navigated through grade school, I constantly repeated these words to myself, “I just want to be normal.” I couldn’t read like my classmates, and I couldn’t spell, write, or think “normal.” I was in the 10th grade with a 1.86 GPA.
One day, my English teacher told me "you have amazing ideas but you just can't put them on paper. I think you might be a little dyslexic.”
I was two years from graduating high school and reading on a 5th-grade level. I vividly remember taking the Woodcock Johnson III and every benchmark assessment you could think of.
With the help of my special education teacher, my parents, and most importantly me, I was able to graduate high school. After a successfull freshmen year of college I thought to myself, “What if I could have found this out sooner?”; and that moment I knew I wanted to help students reach their potential.
